How to Become a Public Adjuster in Florida

Property Insurance Claim Insights from Noble Public Adjusting Group

If you are thinking of becoming a Florida Public Adjuster, then congratulations! Becoming a public adjuster is a great career choice. There is a significant degree of personal satisfaction involved when you know you are helping others. Your next thought might be, “Should be easy enough. Learn the skill, take a test, make money.”

So, you probably hit up Google and searched keywords like “how to become a public adjuster” or “learning to be a Florida public adjuster.” Chances are you now feel like you have been going in circles for an hour or more. Why? Google and the rest of the world outside the public adjuster community don’t realize how much of a difference there is between types of adjusters.

Florida Public Adjuster Training

Career-oriented people who are seriously interested in Florida public adjuster training, please read on. We are not going to train you right here in this blog post to become a Florida public adjuster. As the largest and best-reviewed public adjusting firm in the USA, Noble Public Adjusting Group is going to educate you, other job hunters, and knowledge sponges on how different a public adjuster is from an insurance company adjuster or an independent adjuster.

Courtesy of FAPIA (Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters), of which Noble is an honored member, below are the definitions of types of adjusters in Florida:

There are three types of adjusters licensed by the State of Florida:

Insurance Company Adjuster – is employed by an insurance company to represent the insurance company in dealing with your insurance claim. The insurance company adjusters’ main responsibility is to protect the interests of the insurance company.

Independent Adjuster – is hired by insurance companies to represent them in dealing with you, your loss, and damages. The independent adjuster’s responsibility is to protect the interests of the insurance company.

Public Adjuster – is the only Adjuster licensed by the State of Florida to represent you, the Insured. The Public Adjuster’s responsibility is to protect you and your interests in claims against a loss with the Insurance Company.”

Hopefully, the above information will finally clear up any confusion about what a public adjuster is and what they do. A public adjuster works for the insured, not the insurance company. That means our goal is to make sure that homeowners and commercial property owners receive the highest possible payout for any insurance claim. Our job is both challenging and highly rewarding. When we battle with an insurance company and umpire for a better settlement for our clients, we sometimes actually feel like a hero. Winning is very heady stuff.

Florida Public Adjuster Apprenticeship

Now, if you still think you want to become a Florida public adjuster, there are a few other things you need to know. The laws in Florida governing public adjusters are strict. For one thing, unlike most other states, in Florida, you have to apprentice under a licensed public adjuster like Noble for no less than a year before you can officially become a public adjuster. You must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. In Florida, public adjusters must not only finish an insurance course and pass a state-administered bar exam but become bonded for $50,000. Follow this link to read the actual statutes governing public adjuster apprentices if you would like to read for yourself.

We do not want to discourage anyone from improving their lives and advancing their career by becoming a public adjuster. However, as you can see from the information above, only the best and brightest will be considered for the role. Noble is glad this is true. That means the public adjuster industry is one of the most respected and works for the people, not for companies.

If you do become a Florida public adjuster, you will have good reason to be proud, not only of what you have accomplished by obtaining the title but of the things you are doing for others. As far as we are concerned, there is no higher calling.
